There was a time when virtually every lunch bag in America contained a Delicious Red apple, made popular by the Stark Bro’s Nursery in Louisiana, Missouri. Around 1880, Jesse Hiatt discovered an unusual fruit in his orchard of Yellow Bellflower trees. He cared for the tree and soon he was growing what he called the “Hawkeye,” but which the Stark Bro’s renamed the “Delicious.” The Stark Bro’s bought the exclusive rights to Hiatt’s apple, and began selling Delicious trees across the country and world.

This notecard collection features five images (2 each) from the Stark Brothers Nurseries and Orchards Company Records in the permanent collection of The State Historical Society of Missouri.
