Arrow Rock Ink by Sandy Selby
Historian Sandy Selby has curated this delightful and insightful book that offers a new look at the history of the National Historic Landmark village of Arrow Rock, Missouri. Using newspaper accounts, personal correspondence, meeting minutes, and diary entries, Selby offers a unique history of the popular tourist town. Readers will enjoy a more personal connection with the residents of early Arrow Rock as they follow the happenings in town. Some of the stories included are laugh-out-loud funny, and others are tragic reminders of the challenges faced by settlers on the western frontier in the 1800s. The book includes original drawings, created in woodcut style, that help readers navigate through some of the most common recurring themes in the book, including the town's quest for a railroad, and shocking crimes that were the talk of the town.
About the Author
In 2024, Sandy Selby stepped away from her career as a magazine editor to pursue her passion as a historian. She founded her company, History Speaks! LLC, to create local history programs and publications that fascinate and inform. She hopes to replicate the Arrow Rock Ink format for other towns and organizations and to help history-focused groups navigate the publication process. In addition, she creates tours and educational programs for clients who want to share the stories of their historic properties. Sandy’s own Arrow Rock Ghost Tours, which she operates with her husband, Marty, are wildly popular, appropriately spooky, and stealthily educational.
